Above the dam flows are high and water can be dirty especially in the mornings as flows are rising, below the dam flows are more stable and conditions have been more consistent, stoneflies and caddis are hatching in the canyon and bigger flies are working well. Water is at its clearest between the dam and Drake, above the dam and below drake clarity may be lower. Runoff on the Poudre is beginning to wind down. Water is still high and moving fast, but clarity has improved and visibility is high. Caddis and Stoneflies and hatching in the canyon currently. Focus on pocket water and slower seams. Streamers have been working as well. Flies that are working: Duracell #16-20, Blowtorch #14-20, Perdigon #14-18, Spanish Bullet #14-20, Golden Stonefly Nymph #14-18, Black Copper John #16-20, Hare's Ear #16-20, Elk Hair Caddis #16-20, Black Wooly Bugger #10-14, Chubby Chernobyl #12-16, Stimulator #12-18

 

 

St Vrain Creek

At Lyons: 234 CFS

Below Button Rock Reservoir (North St Vrain): 111 CFS

At Peaceful Valley (Middle St Vrain): 65.8 CFS

Near Ward (South St Vrain): 52.6 CFS

Don’t overlook the St. Vrain! Fishing has been great all spring and looks like it will continue. Water is gin clear and low, so keep a low profile and watch your shadow as you approach, these fish are easily spooked. Most of the action is still below the surface in deeper pools and runs. Hatches recently have been midges and occasionally BWOs. Flies that are working: Hare’s Ear Nymph 16-20, Prince Nymph 18-22, Split Back Shady 20-22, Rainbow Warrior 18-22, Zebra Midge 22-26, Allison’s Flasher 18-22, Barr’s BWO Emerger 22-24, Parachute Adam’s 18-22, Parachute BWO 20-24

The upper North Platte is at ideal flows for wading currently. Fish are concentrated in the narrow sections of the canyon where there is deep water that the fish can hold in. Fish are mostly eating deep in pools and runs but some surface activity has been happening in the late mornings and afternoons. Flies that are working: Frenchie 12-20, Perdigon 14-20, Duracell 14-20, Walt's Worm 14-20, San Juan Worm 10-14, Pat's Rubber Legs 8-12, Elk Hair Caddis 12-18, Parachute Adams 14-20, Thin Mint 8-14
