- Description
A 98 mm freeride ski with a Titanal beam and a Bandit B3 paint job. The Super Blackops is the ski Rossignol quietly kept making for people who want one pair that does everything - a 98 mm waist that carves a groomer properly in the morning and floats well enough to be fun when it snows. This is the limited-edition run in Bandit B3 green, which is the loudest topsheet we stock and we make no apology for it.
Who this ski is for
An intermediate-to-advanced skier who wants one ski for a Colorado season. At 98 mm underfoot it is the width most people should actually buy here: narrow enough to hold an edge on a hard Front Range morning, wide enough to enjoy a storm day at Eldora or Winter Park. If you only ski groomers, something narrower will carve better. If you only ski deep days, go wider. For everything in between, this is the honest answer.
What you get
- Titanal beam. A metal layer underfoot for edge grip, rebound and energy down the length of the ski. It is what separates this from the soft playful skis at the same width - there is a real ski under the graphics.
- PEFC poplar wood core. Balanced for damping, elasticity and weight, from certified sustainable forestry.
- Twin rocker. Rocker at tip and tail with camber underfoot - easy to steer, easy to slow down, and it floats without feeling vague.
- Rectangular full sidewall. Full-length vertical sidewalls over a horizontally layered core. This is the construction that holds an edge when the snow goes firm, which in Colorado is most mornings.
- Progressive sidecut so it drifts and smears as readily as it carves, and V-A-S vibration damping to keep it quiet underfoot at speed.
- Sintered HD base. Faster and more durable than extruded, and it actually holds wax - worth keeping on top of.

Which length?
The 172 turns quicker and is the more forgiving ski; the 182 is more stable at speed and floats better in soft snow. As a rough guide the 172 suits skiers up to around 5 foot 10, the 182 above that - but weight and how hard you ski matter more than height does. Tell us how you ski and we will put you on the right one. We have a single pair of each.
Mounted and tuned in Longmont
These are sold flat, so you will need bindings. Mounting is free when you buy skis and bindings from us: we mount on a calibrated jig, set forward pressure to your boot and test the release values before the skis leave the shop. Bring your boots in - a binding set to the wrong boot sole length is not a binding, it is a hazard. Every pair goes out waxed.
Common questions
Do these come with bindings? No. "Open" is Rossignol's word for a flat ski. We will fit whatever binding suits your boots and ability, and mount it free when you buy both here.
Is 98 mm too wide for Front Range groomers? No. Ten years ago it would have been. With a Titanal beam and full sidewalls this holds an edge properly - 98 mm is the standard one-ski width in Colorado for good reason.
Will the metal make it too demanding? It is a beam, not a full sheet, so you get the damping and grip without the ski punishing you for being slightly out of position. An intermediate who is skiing parallel and linking turns will get on with it.
What bindings should I put on these? Something with a brake of 100 mm or wider to clear the waist. Come in with your boots and we will match the DIN range to your weight, height and ability rather than guessing.
Can I pick them up today? Yes if they are in stock. Order online and choose free local pickup in Longmont, or free shipping on orders over $200.
